It was our first watermelon of the season and we looked forward to sitting on the front porch with an ice cold slice of its sweet, juicy contents. How unfortunate that the melon was overripe and mushy in the center. Rather than letting it go to waste, we placed a portion of it on the lawn, in plain view of the birds then watched to see if there were any takers.
The Mockingbirds loved it! While the other birds ignored the mushy red stuff, the fruit-loving Mockingbirds couldn't get enough of it...
Mmmmmm, that's so good!
So cold and sweet, what a great summertime treat!
Just try to take some, I dare ya!
What I want to know is...where do I find more of this stuff?
Since the Mockingbirds enjoy the melon so well, I share some with them each time I cut one. I discovered they also love blueberries. Fortunately, friends have given me blueberries from their bushes so I've had a ready supply. I take delight in watching the birds enjoy their summer "treats"- just a little pay-back for all the times they've made me smile :)
Think I'll go for the melon first...it looks mouth-watering delicious!
These berries are pretty good, too...but I like the melon best!
Oh yes...what's more refreshing than sips of
fresh, cool water during a hot summer day?
I hope your summer is as delicious...
Many Thanks for stopping in!
