Carolina Wren, A First For Me

Carolina Wren's are a common bird species in the southeastern U.S.; however, this is a first for me.  There's always brown birds around, so it's easy to overlook a similar visitor in the mix. I noticed something different about this little bird- it's tail was short and upright, and it had a long, curved beak for its size.

After some comparison of images, I came to the conclusion that this is indeed a Carolina Wren.  The long, white eyebrow strip and cinnamon-brown plumage are some characteristics of this bird.

I think this one is a young Carolina Wren because it hasn't yet developed the buff colored feathers on its underparts.  It hung around for a little while, snooping around the wooden fence then disappeared into the forest.

If any of you can give me a positive identification of this bird, please leave me a message in the comments form.  Until then, I will assume that my conclusion is correct.

Wishing everyone a happy day!

    1. Thank you, Mike. I hope to see more of them in the future, but from what I've read, they're shy little birds.

    1. It didn't make a sound during the brief time it was here, JP. I listened to their calls/songs online...so pretty! I do believe I've heard them in the nearby forest.

  4. It is indeed! They are such friendly little birds! Great pictures! I do hope you get to come see Monument Valley someday...especially since it was a favorite place of your Mom's.
