Daylily Shopping

Yesterday my husband and I visited a plant nursery which was highly recommended by a friend.  My goal was to come home with several beautiful daylilies- and that's just what I did! The choices weren't easy though.  There were rows and rows of huge, colorful gorgeous blooms.  With the price at only $4.00 per plant for over 10 items purchased, I could have gone crazy. What a great value! I wanted to bring home one (or two) of each, but I had to chose the ones I liked best as there was limited space in the transportation van.

Here are most of my choices:

Gorgeous, aren't they?  Now I face the task of getting them all planted-

At this very moment, raised wooden planter boxes are being made for me :)  I'm so excited!
I'm going to really enjoy these lovely flowers for many years to come!

Rosy Maple Moth

This colorful moth decided to fly indoors without realizing the danger within- like the crazy cat that chases and kills every little thing that moves or the dog that sometimes gets the urge to snap at flying insects.  After a few minutes to trying to capture it without causing injury, my grandson finally succeeded- I was able to snap a quick shot of the moth on the tip of his finger before he released him on our back porch.

Have a wonderful Monday and a great week!

Brown-Headed Nuthatches

A pair of Brown-headed Nuthatches hung around my back yard feeders for several days.  I enjoyed hearing their high-pitched calls which reminded me of my dog's squeaky toys.  I often watched them forage along the pine trees, pecking at crevices between the bark.  They were quite entertaining.  On one occasion I had my cell phone out on the back porch and played a you tube video of a nuthatch calling- within a minute a nuthatch lighted upon the porch railing, seeking out the source of the familiar call.  He was literally within 2 feet of me- I should have thought to have my camera ready!

Thank you for dropping in and viewing my bird shots.
May you have a wonderful Wednesday and remaining week!

Monday Blues

But not the kind of blues you expected-
just a beautiful blue indigo bunting that stopped to
visit my bird feeders on his way north...

Have a great Monday and a good week!

Great Crested Flycatchers

I watched a pair of Great Crested Flycatchers gather nesting materials and place them into one of the wooden houses in my back yard.  Actually, the female gathered the materials while her mate watched over her.  When she was in the bird house, he stood guard on top, making frequent high-pitched warning calls to ward off others in the area.  He was very attentive to her, following her every move.

Love is certainly in the air.  I'm looking forward to watching them with their offspring.

Spooked Squirrel

I spotted this beautiful fox squirrel as I was exiting Lake Bill Waller.  I stopped the car and watched him for a minute, but he didn't appreciate my company.

At first he just froze on the tree stump.  For several seconds he didn't flinch.
Then he sped off and ran up a nearby tree.
Laying low...
"You still there, woman?!!!"

Have a great week, everyone!
