Another "Cute Squirrel" Post

Today is my 3rd post-op day and all is going well.  Actually, it's going better than I expected. I've already "graduated" from crutches to a cane and require just minimum assistance in standing up from my chair.  I'm looking forward to my complete recovery and the return of my normal routine.

The squirrel photos are from June 2015.  Another cute little squirrel.  I can never have too much of their "cuteness".  I love to watch these frisky critters play in the trees and steal seeds from the bird feeders.  They're so much fun!  This one appears to be "flexing his arm muscles" in the second photo and exercising in the next three photos.

Hopefully you've had a great start to this new week.  It's hard to believe that today marks the passing of two months from this year's calendar.  Amazing how time flies.  Thank you for dropping in!

Backyard Group of Titmice

What a beautiful day it's going to be here in southern Mississippi- temperatures in the 70's (yes, in February!) and partly cloudy.  Right now the sun is shining and there's a comfortable breeze.  I love it!  So far it's been a very mild winter for us.

I've wanted to get out and visit some of the wildlife areas in our state but I've been mostly confined to my home for a couple of weeks.  An MRI confirmed that I have two tears in the meniscus of my right knee so surgery is planned near the end of this month.  I'll be glad when the surgery is over and I'm back on my feet again.  It's no fun being immobile!

Today I'm posting photos of the titmice that frequent our backyard feeders.  I often see a group of 3 to 4 of them together in the tree near the feeders.  I love to hear their bird calls.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!  Thanks for visiting!

Last Year's Purple Finches

I had read that the migrating areas for Purple Finches are unpredictable- they may flood a certain area one winter, then chose a different area the next year.  I was lucky to have several of these pretty rosy colored birds last winter so I won't complain about not seeing any this year.  Maybe next winter...

These photos of male purple finches were taken in February 2015-

Have a great week everyone!

Foxy Fella

The skies were overcast today and I thought it would be a prime opportunity for outdoor photos.  I gathered my camera equipment and headed out first to Lake Columbia.  I saw several coots, a Great Blue Heron and an unidentified hawk but they were on the opposite side of the lake, too far away to get any decent photos of them.

I then drove a few miles to Lake Bill Waller in hopes I would have better luck there.  There was nothing visible on the lake but as I was heading out, I spotted a few Dark-eyed Juncos.  I pulled over to watch them.  Within minutes, I spotted a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and a Downy Woodpecker on a nearby tree.  I tried to get some good shots of them but they were partly obscured by tree branches.

Just as I was starting to leave, a Fox Squirrel came scurrying across the grassy field.  When he spotted me, he stopped dead in his tracks and stood up.  For a good minute or two he stood frozen in place and curiously stared at me.  I think he was more curious (and probably frightened) about the clicking sounds of my camera as I snapped away.  Finally, he slowly turned then quickly made his escape into the nearest tree.

Fox squirrels aren't that common in my area.  The only ones I've seen have been in the wooded area surrounding Lake Bill Waller.  I'm grateful to this foxy fella for making my trip there worthwhile today.
